Portland Timbers secured their place in the 2021 MLS Cup final after beating Real Salt Lake 2-0 at Providence Park in the Western Conference final last weekend. It is the third time that the Timbers have gone all the way to the final - they lifted the trophy in 2015 and finished as runners-up after losing to Atlanta United in 2018.

They will face Eastern Conference champions New York City FC who edged past Philadelphia Union on Sunday with Talles Magno grabbing a late winner. It will be their first appearance in a MLS Cup final.

Oregon to host 2021 MLS Cup final

The 2021 MLS Cup final between Portland Timbers and New York City FC will be played at Providence Park, Portland, Oregon on Saturday 11 December with kick-off at 3pm ET / 12:00 noon PT.

How are MLS Cup final hosting rights decided?

The MLS championship decider will be hosted by whichever finalist finished higher in the Supporters’ Shield standings - a combined Eastern and Western Conference table used to determine the side with the best overall regular-season record.

Supporters' Shield top four all out of playoffs

This season’s Supporters’ Shield was won by New England Revolution, but Bruce Arena’s men lost on penalties to New York City in the Eastern Conference semi-finals on Tuesday.

Western Conference trio Colorado Rapids, Seattle Sounders and Sporting Kansas City all also finished above Portland in the Supporters’ Shield table, but were eliminated from the playoffs.
