Real Madrid vs Atlético Madrid live

The Real Madrid juggernaut rolls on and Ancelotti's side are relentless as they open an eight point lead in LaLiga with goals from Benzema and Asensio tonight enough to secure three points in a derby that they always had under control.

That's it from the Bernabeu and Real Madrid secure a 2-0 win that sees Ancelotti's men move 8 points clear at the top of the table

The Belgian certainly the AS 'Man of the Match' tonight in the derby.

91

Courtois once again comes to the rescue for Real Madrid and this time saves with his face.

Ironic chants of "Cholo stay on" from the RM faithful. The 50,000 or so fans have enjoyed their evening.

90

We'll have three minutes of added time.

Madrid just minutes away from extending heir lead at the top of the LaLiga table to 8 points. Both sides return to domestic action next weekend with Atleti away to Sevilla and Madrid set to face Cadiz at the Bernabeu.

Cards for Alaba and Suarez after a tangle between the striker and Austrian defender.

And Rodrygo now comes on for fellow Brazilian Vini Jr.

Asensio makes way for the Uruguayan.

Valverde and Rodrygo set to join the fray for Real Madrid.

Atleti to their credit have refused to throw in the towel as they look for a way past the white wall. Once they penetrate the defensive line, they have stopper Courtois to contend with.

Carvajal replaced by Nacho.

We've seen little from Luis Suarez since his introduction ....

81

Lemar strikes and Courtois saves. Corner for Atleti as we head into the final ten minutes of the derby.

Mendy fouls Lemar and Atleti win a dangerous free. Nacho poised to make an entrance.

Madrid go close to making it 3-0 as Vinicius drives the ball into the box and it trickles wide.

Atleti go close and once again it was Courtois who makes a reflex save with players covering his line of vision. The Belgian has been outstanding once again for Real Madrid tonight.

75

Quarter of an hour remains here at the Bernabeu. Madrid still very good value for their lead.

Modric set to exit as Kondogbia is carded for a foul on Casemiro.

Still, whilst it remains at 2-0, a goal for the visitors could make the remiander of the action very interssting.

71

The second goal really has provided a major comfort cushion for the home side. Atleti still look toothless when it comes to breaking down the Madrid rear guard despite the changes.

De Paul makes way for the Mexican Herrera.

Herrera set to be the fifth and final change for Atleti.

Jovic almost sneaks into the Atleti box but just over-hits his first touch.

65

Madrid fans enjoying this now with cheers of 'ole, ole' greeting each pass.

61

Atleti need a swift reply if they are to secure a foothold in the contest. Hermoso heads over with Lemar better positioned behind the Atleti man.

Lodi for Correa and Cuhna exits for Luis Suarez (Atleti changes)

Great work again from Vinicius who waits and picks out his pass finding the man from Mallorca who slots past Oblak. Difficult to see Atleti coming back from this setbsck.

58

Gooooooooool. Asensio strikes after a mistake from Felipe.

Cholo's men working the ball in to the box with more frequency now than they did in the first 45'.

Better from Atleti as the visitors start brightly (not dissimilar to their opening spell at the beginning of the game)

52

Atleti again and this time it's Cunha who almost strikes but, once again Courtois was alert and cleared the danger.

49

Atleti go close as Joao Felix strikes after decent play from Lemar. The ball was straight at Courtois and easy for the Belgian to smother.

49

Asensio weaves into the box and just fails to pull the trigger as he's hounded out by red and white shirts.

What can the Atleti subs deliver? It's true that both the Belgian and French striker offered little in the first period.

46

Off we go... second half underway at the Bernabéu

Changes too for Atleti and it appears that Carrasco and Griezmann have been switched for Joao Felix and Lemar.

Changes at the break and it looks like Benzema will play no further role in the derby with the French striker being replaced by Jovic.

Should things stay this way come full-time, Real Madrid would move 8 points clear of Sevilla in second place.

Despite a bright start from Atleti, Madrid went ahead with a stunning Karim Benzema volley on the 16' mark following a fine Vini Jr assist. Madrid have been in control for the bulk of the game with the best chance for the visitors being a Griezmann free that was expertley saved by Courtois.

Free for Atleti ....which comes to nothing and the whistle sounds to bring an end to the first 45' of the Madrid derby.

Mendy carded as he elbows Correa with the former San Lorenzo man in trouble and requiring medical attention.

45

We'll have just one minute of added time.

44

Atleti seem to have weathered the storm after the RM goal and are playing much better but still seem void of the creativity required to break down this solid and disciplined Madrid back line.

40

Last five of the half and Madrid still good value for their 1-0 lead. Atleti are putting in a decent shift in closing down the Madrid players with De Paul particulary active.

The Griezmann free is as good as things have been for Atleti tonight but Courtois was level to the challenge with a solid stop.

38

Vini from an acute angle forces Oblak to palm the ball wide. The ball falls to Carvajal and the defender blasts wide.

37

The ref. also has a word with Vini and reminds the Brazilian who is in charge !!

Felipe carded for clipping Asensio.

35

Griezmann territory ? Four in the wall for Madrid. Carrasco also over the ball. In the end it's the French forward who strikes. Great save from Coiurtois who pushes the ball away from the top corner.

34

Danger for Madrid as Modric clips Cunha on the edge of the box.

33

Mendy this time takes out Cunha and ref. Matheu Lahoz having a word now with the Real Madrid rear-guard and their rugged tackles.

31

Carvajal puts his studs into Griezmann's ankle and is lucky not to be booked for the foul.

30

Half and hour gone in Madrid and it's Carlo Ancelotti's men who are well on top in the derby. Atleti started well but were rocked by the dazzling Benzema volley just after the quarter of an hour mark.

28

Madrid very, very comfortable now and Atleti with a crisis of confidence as they hesitate with each pass. Apart from the opening ten minutes or so, Cholo's men have been on the back-foot in the derby. Courtois yet to be really tested this evening.

25

Militao has a speculative effort from range but gets under the ball and drives well over Oblak's bar.

24

We've seen little or nothing from Antoine Griezmann in this first 20 minutes plus of the derby. Atleti need their stars to perform with Carrasco and Correa also yet to shine in the game.

22

The goal has Atleti rattled and has galvanised the home side who move the ball around now with purpoise and poise.

20

Incredible, who comes to Madrid's defensive aid deep inside their own half? Benzema .... impressive play from the striker!

Goal No. 13 for Karim Benzema in LaLiga this season.

Great rob from Modric and a fine assist from Vini Jr as he feeds the French striker. The finish was pure delicatessen from the man from Lyon.

Gooooooooolazzzzzzzzzzzo. Benzema with an exquisite volley to give Real Madrid the lead.

15

Madrid starting to secure a foot-holding on the game now after that decent early spell from the men in red and white. Neither keeper yet to be really tested in this first 15' of action.

rm

Action snap from the opening stage of the Madrid derby.

11

Corner for the home side, Kroos as always to take with his trusty right foot, Militao nods on but no-one at the back post for Madrid.

10

Atleti certainly started the stronger side here at the Bernabéu as we hit the ten minute mark.

8

Alaba pushes Correa and the ref. awards the free to Atleti. Carrasco to take, goes short to Correa and Madrid manage to avert the danger.

7

Llorente appeals for a corner but the ref points to the goal mouth. The visitors enjoying the better of the opening minutes.

5

Cunha shoots but fails to secure accuracy on the shot as the ball drifts high and over the crossbar.

4

Benzema has been on the ball on a number of times and the French striker looks sharp. No apparent side issues of the muscular problem that ruled him out of the UCL game mid-week.

2

Danger for Madrid as De Paul feeds Llorente and Courtois is forced to spring into action as Cunha lurks.

1

Correa immediately clashes into Kroos. Free for the home side.

All set for 'El Derbi Madrieleño' as the home side start the action.

We'll now hold that minute's silence for Manolo Santana, with the tennis great passing away yesterday at the age of 84. Santana was a self declared 100% Madridista!

Vini Jr presented with the MVP award for the month of November.

50,000 fans packed into the Bernabéu tonight with the stadium operating on a reduced capacity as the ongoing restructuring works continue.

Real Madrid in their classic all white kit, Atlei too in their iconic red-stripes, blue shorts and socks.

All set at the Bernabéu. A mild December's evening in the Spanish capital.... A current temperature of 12C/54F as the sides take to the pitch with "Hala Madrid" blaring out on the stadium PA.

Just 100 Atleti fans at the Bernabéu this evening.

A reminder of the starting line-ups for tonight's game should you be joining us late. Kick-off is looming and less than ten minutes away.

Madrid go retro with derby marketing

Classic old tile mosaics are a common feature in bars in the Spanish capital and Real Madrid have developed this smart retro image feel in collaboration with Madrid based beer Mahou.

This is how the LaLiga table looks tonight ahead of the derby. Madrid could open a 8 point lead at the summit with a win over Atleti.

LaLiga: Sunday results

Real Betis maintain their fine run of form and proved too strong for Real Sociedad to secure their fourth win on the bounce with a 4-0 win at Heliopolis. Barcelona saw a late Osasuna strike from Chimy Avila see the men from Pamplona secure a 2-2 draw with Xavi's magic yet to really translate into results. In the early game on Sunday, Villarreal beat surprise package Rayo Vallecano with a 2-0 home win.

Atleti somewhat erratic these days, but Simeone's side will have had morale levels boosted with their win in Porto last Tuesday that saw them secure a place in tomorrow's UEFA Champions League Round of 16 draw.

Real Madrid are flying at the moment and hold a 5 point lead over Sevilla at the top of LaLiga.

derby

Tonight's game is the 279th RM-ATM meeting

The Madrid derby has been contested on 278 occasions with Real Madrid securing 142 wins against the 68 for Atleti. The games have also ended tied on 68 occasions.

99th Madrid derby at the Bernabéu

Tonight's game marks the 99th official meeting between both sides at the Santiago Bernabéu. In those games, Madrid have won 56, Atleti just 16 with 26 drawn matches.

Pre-game quotes: Ancelotti

"I don't want to put more pressure on this game than it already is"

"We have shown that we have done better than the other teams to date. But the league does not end today, we have to play for six more months and I don't know what can happen. So far we have done better, but we are concerned about the future, not the past."

Pre-game quotes: Simeone

"Real Madrid know that Atlético can compete with them"

“I don't think too much about those statistics, I do know that, in the last 10 games, they won four and we drew the other six. And we have always competed with Madrid. They know it - they know that they will be in for a difficult game tomorrow”.

Karim Benzema starts and is captain for Ancelotti's men having complained of a tight hamstring last weekend in then away trip to San Sebastian.

Santana tribute pre-game

There will be a minute's silence held pre-game tonight at the Bernabeu to pay tribute to Spanish tennis great, Manolo Santana who passed away yesterday aged 84.

Atleti injury concerns

While Madrid are at full strength, the opposite is the case for Simeone’s Atleti. The coach, who is without four defenders - Giménez, Savic, Trippier and Vrsaljko, can just about put a back four together. Kondogbia will drop back into central defence alongside Felipe with Marcos Llorente taking up Trippier’s position at right-back. It’s a toss-up between Ángel Correa or Thomas Lemar as to who will man the left flank.

Benzema doubt

Karim Benzema was taken off in last weekend’s win over Real Sociedad with a tight hamstring. He has been training as normal since Thursday and he has been included in Ancelotti’s 25-man squad list for the game. Also in the list is Gareth Bale, who last appeared at the end of August but has been laid low by a series of diverse fitness issues. All of Ancelotti’s available players have been called up – only Dani Ceballos, who has been sidelined for several months with ankle injury, misses out.

Simeone desperate for derby win

Atletico Madrid will be desperate to beat runaway leaders Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu tonight to revive their bid for a second consecutive Spanish league title.

Real are currently cruising in top spot, eight points ahead of second-placed Sevilla and 10 above Atletico in fourth, albeit having played a game more than those two rivals.

However, they will need to be on top form to stop Real, with Carlo Ancelotti's team looking for their 10th straight win in all competitions.

The 2016 Atleti derby win

Current LaLiga champions Atleti go into tonight's Sunday’s derby 10 points adrift of their neighbours with Real Madrid running away with the league and are brimming with confidence, have few or no injury concerns and are getting results despite somtime erratic performances.

Atletico have gone ten derby games now without getting the better of their city neighbours. February 2016 was the last time the 'Colchoneros' got the better over 'Los Blancos' with Griezmann bagging the solitary goal of the game.

The action from the Spanish capital gets underway at 1500 ET/2100 local time.

Hello and welcome to our live LaLiga coverage from the Bernabéu as Real Madrid welcome Atlético in the Madrid derby.
