Update:

Spider-Man: No Way Home will be released nationally on Friday, 17 December and fans have had to wait a long time for the latest Spider-Man epic to be realised.

Marvel Studios have been planning a third Spider-Man film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) since 2017, but filming did not begin until October 2020. The movies retains Tom Holland in the lead role, while Zendaya Coleman once again features as Peter Parker’s love interest, Mary Jane.

The film features other characters from MCU and it plays with the notion of the metaverse and the alternative realities. As is common with Marvel’s cinematic offerings, the film’s credits include extra bonus content and a look ahead to other upcoming releases from the studio.

What is in the Spider-Man: No Way Home mid-credit scene?

The mid-credit scene takes place while the credits are rolling down the screen and in this instance they give a bit of extra information on how the various Peter Parkers fared in the aftermath.

The scene shows the Peter Parkers and the villains are cured and sent back to their original universes, aside from the MCU version who heads back to anonymity in New York City.

However viewers are then shown Eddie Brock, aka Venom (Tom Hardy), drinking alone in what appears to be a bar in Mexico. The character of Venom has starred in other recent films in the MCU as well as being a villain from the original Spider-Man comics. In the scene, Eddie Brock hears about Iron Man, Hulk and Thanos and decides to track down Spider-Man in New York.

But before heading off, they accidentally leave a tiny piece of the symbiote behind at the bar. This could mean that the symbiote will join in the quest to find Spidey, or could suggest that the symbiote hive mind will have picked up memories from Venom during the bar scene.

The exact ramifications are unknown but the drop of symbiote left on the bar certainly opens the door to the possibility of Venom existing independently in the MCU, without Eddie Brook necessarily being present.

The post-credit scene, which appears after the credits have concluded, moves away from Spider-Man and onto another corner of the MCU. This time we jump to a trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is scheduled to be released in May 2022.

Doctor Strange has teamed up with Wanda Maximoff for help after his meddling with the multiverse begins to spiral out of control. The trailer gives a decidedly darker portrayal of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange and a brief look at Strange’s former love, Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams).
