Barça, Sevilla and Cádiz reach agreement for Luuk de Jong loan

Barça, Sevilla and Cádiz have reached an agreement for the loan of Luuk de Jong to the Gaditanos. The Dutch striker will remain with Cádiz for the remainder of the season, according to reports in Mundo Deportivo which AS can confirm. Luuk doesn't figure in Xavi's plans and now all the remains for the deal to go though is the player's consent. Barça have cut short the loan agreement they had in place with De Jong while Cádiz have accepted to take the player on similar terms for until the end of the current season.

With De Jong's departure, Barça will reduce their salary bill which will help them in their plan to bring in Ferran Torres during next month's transfer window. Luuk joined Barcelona on the final day of last summer's transfer window on a one-year loan, due to expire in June 2022. However, the player has not met expectations. He has made just nine appearances in LaLiga (three of them in the starting XI) and scored just one goal. He has played in three Champions League games, in which he didn't find the net. Disappointing figures in Barcelona's eyes.

Cádiz chance

At Cádiz, De Jong could have the chance to get his career back on track. He will surely have a lot more opportunities to play than he's had at Barcelona. The Andalucians are short on goals, having scored just 15 so far this season - the second lowest figure in LaLiga. The team is currently second from bottom on 14 points, just one away from safety. Luuk signed for Sevilla ahead of the 2019-20 season, after five dream seasons with PSV Eindhoven. He scoted 10 league goals in 69 appearances for Sevilla. His high point was netting a brace in the Europa League final against Inter Milan which helped the club to secure their sixth European title.
