Mbappe: PSG in talks over short-term deal for Real Madrid target
According to reports in France, PSG are discussing a new deal with Kylian Mbappé and the France forward may consider putting off a move to Real Madrid.
PSG remain hopeful of signing Kylian Mbappé to a new deal and have been given a boost in their intention to keep the France forward, who has been heavily linked with a summer move to Real Madrid, at the Parc des Princes for at least another season. Mbappé’s contract expires in the summer and he is already free to negotiate with clubs outside of Ligue 1, with Madrid waiting in the wings for the 23-year-old. Mbappé is in no rush to make a decision on his future, playing into the hands of PSG, who are intent on finding a way to persuade the forward to commit his future to the club, even if only in the short term, not least because a renewal at this stage would ensure a fee for the World Cup-winner, who will be available on a free in the summer otherwise.
According to Telefoot, PSG are working on a one-to-two-year extension for Mbappé, which could suit all parties. PSG’s much-vaunted front three of Mbappé, Leo Messi and Neymar have barely played together this season due to a series of injuries and covid-imposed protocols, and the Frenchman may yet to be temped to see what damage a fully fit MNM can wreak on Europe. Mbappé is happy in Paris, having grown up in the area, and may prefer to wait to see what Madrid can do in the transfer market this summer in terms of Erling Haaland before making a decision on his future.
Mbappé undecided on Madrid move but Haaland could prove key
Telefoot states that Mbappé has already informed PSG that he will not make a decision on his future until the end of the season. The Ligue 1 giants have a Champions League double-header against Madrid that will shape their season and perhaps Mbappé’s thought process, given the Frenchman is determined to deliver the Champions League to his club and country.
Real Madrid meanwhile are relaxed about the news filtering from France about Mbappé potentially agreeing to a new deal at PSG. The Bernabéu board is confident that sooner or later the France forward will move to the Spanish capital for a potential link-up with Erling Haaland with Carlo Ancelotti said to be planning in the long-term on the basis that he will have Mbappé at his disposal.
