Buffalo Bills vs. Kansas City Chiefs: What to watch out for in Divisional Round

The Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs will face off on Sunday night for the fourth time in the last two seasons, setting up a rematch of the 2020 AFC Championship Game at Arrowhead Stadium.

The Chiefs have won the last two matchups last season, including the AFC Championship game. However, Buffalo beat Kansas City 38-20 in their most recent matchup in Week 5 of the regular season.

Here are some of the changes we will be seeing going into Sunday’s game between the two teams. The (3) Bills at (2) Chiefs, will kickoff at 6:30 p.m. ET 

Josh Allen vs. Patrick Mahomes

The battle between the Bills’ quarterback Josh Allen, and MVP Patrick Mahomes is the first thing to look out for in the next matchup.

Allen is coming off the best game of his career, where he threw for 308 passing yards and five touchdowns without turning the ball over, against the New England Patriots. The 25-year-old helped lead the Bills on seven straight touchdown drives that made it impossible for the Patriots to get back into the game.

As for Mahomes, he also flexed his talents on the Pittsburgh Steelers with his five touchdowns. He threw for 400 yards and was able to get the ball down the field, allowing at least five players to record at least one reception going for more than 20 yards.

Both quarterbacks are playing at a high level this weekend and are early in their careers. This should be a great show in Kansas City, Missouri.

Buffalo is missing Tre’Davious White

While Buffalo finished the regular season as the NFL team with the best defense, allowing the fewest yards per game (272.8) and fewest points (17.0), they did have the incredible cornerback Tre’Davious White. Unfortunately, White suffered a season-ending injury on Thanksgiving against the New Orleans Saints and has been out since.

Cornerbacks Levi Wallace and Dane Jackson have done a good job in White’s absence, but they still haven’t felt the pressure of a top-tier quarterback like Mahomes.

It will be intriguing to see how the coaches approach Sunday’s game, especially how they choose to defend their wide receiver Tyreek Hill, without their All-Pro cornerback.

The Bills are focused on improving their pass rush, especially in a game where getting pressure on Patrick Mahomes with their defensive line is their primary focus. Selecting their first two picks in the 2021 NFL Draft, rookies Greg Rousseau for the first round and Boogie Basham in the second round, has allowed for big plays. But we’ll have to see how these moves affect Sunday’s game.
