Titans could activate RB Derrick Henry ahead of Bengals clash

Should he get the green light, the running back will undoubtedly bolster a plucky Tennessee team that has big ambitions.

The Titans may be in for some good news ahead of their NFL divisional playoff clash with the Bengals. RB Derrick Henry could be set to return.

As they approach their massive showdown against the Bengals in the NFL's divisional playoff, the Titans could be set to welcome back the services of their star running back.

Titans may activate RB Derrick Henry

According to reports on Tuesday, Titans running back Derrick Henry is all but good to go, such that the team is considering his activation ahead of their NFL divisional playoff clash with the Cincinnati Bengals. The Titans held a padded practice Tuesday and had Henry face several 'tackles' as he went through his drills with fellow running backs. Mike Vrabel went on to say that the team wanted Henry to face a simulation of what he's likely to face should he be available to play. As for Henry himself, his excitement was clear. "I felt great," Henry said Wednesday. "I just wanted to get some pads on. Haven't them on in a while and got some contact going."

What happened to Derrick Henry?

It was back on November 1st when Henry was placed on injured reserve due to a fractured foot which he sustained during the Titans' 34-31 win against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 8. It is understood that Henry responded well to the hits during train, however, the Titans are still sweating as they wait to see if he can participate in training during the next few days. Should that be the case, Henry will indeed be activated in time to face the Bengals. According to Vrabel, the decision will be made on Friday - the day before the game. "It has been a while since he has had contact," Vrabel added. "We will have a week of work, see how he feels, and make a decision." When Henry himself was asked if he would be activated for the game on Sunday, he smiled an responded, "We'll see how this week goes."

Where is Derrick Henry at now?

Speaking on his current status, Henry stated that there is no difference between his left and right foot aside from the steel plate he now carries in his right foot. His only focus was a return to the field so he could get back to game level sharpness. Having been cleared to train on January 5th Henry will have had three weeks to progress by the time his team's date with the Bengals comes around. Will it be enough? That remains to be seen, but if there's one thing that's certain it's this: Though he's been out for 8 games, he still ranks sixth among running backs on the season with 937 rushing yards. Indeed at the time of his unfortunate injury, Derrick Henry was the leading rusher in the NFL.
