It is almost a do-or-die match for the blaugranas, as Betis, one of their rivals for one of those four top spots, have collected six points in their last two games for a total of 40, while Barcelona played the Spanish Super Cup and the Copa del Rey (losing to Real Madrid and Athletic Club, respectively).
Meanwhile, Alavés have recorded two draws and one defeat since Jose Luis Mendilíbar replaced Javier Calleja at the helm.
The hosts, who are bidding to secure a sixth straight campaign in the top flight, were knocked out of the Copa del Rey in the middle of December, are sitting 19th with 17 points, picking up only two points if their last five LaLiga matches.
