Matthew Stafford is a 33-year quarterback, who was drafted by the Detroit Lions first overall and later drafted to the Los Angeles Rams in 2021.

He was one of the NFL players who made the Forbes Highest-Paid Athletes list of 2018, and he was also ranked 10th highest-paid athlete in the world with an earning of $59.5 million.

Stafford’s net worth is estimated at $80 million, according to several reports, with a salary of approximately $17 million a year. He also has annual endorsement deals that bring in an estimated $2 million.

In college, Stafford played for the University of Georgia Bulldogs, before getting drafted by the Detroit Lions in in 2009.

Detroit Lions: Becoming the first overall pick of that year’s NFL Draft, Stafford signed a six-year contract with the Lions valued at $78 million. And with that, he became the first Lions rookie quarterback to start in Week 1- since 1968.

Over his 12 years with the Lions, Stafford set several records; in 2012, he became the fourth quarterback in NFL history to throw for over 5,000 yards in a single season, and was the fastest player to reach 40,000 career passing yards.

Furthermore, Stafford holds the NFL record for the most comeback wins in a single season, reaching eight in 2016. He ranks in the all-time top 20 in pass attempts, completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns, and ranks third of all time in passing yards per game.

A year later, in 2017, Stafford became the highest-paid player in NFL history up to that point, after he signed a $135 million contract extension.

Los Angeles Rams: Stafford was traded to the Los Angeles Rams in March 2021, after a package deal with quarterback Jared Goff, who was a 2021 third-round pick and a first-round pick for 2022 and 2023.

Stafford has helped the Rams become a Super Bowl contender this season, by winning his first playoff game and his team’s Divisional Round last week. The star quarterback is "excited" for the opportunity against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday.
