Canada head coach set to talk to Marcelo Flores over a call up
John Herdman's Canada are four points away from returning to a World Cup and they want to convince the Canadian-Mexican teenager to join Les Rouges.
Canada defeated the United States 2-0 for their victory over the USMNT since 1980 and now they are just four points away from sealing their second World Cup appearance. Les Rouges will play the last game of the winter international window on Wednesday when they go on the road to play El Salvador at the Estadio Cuscatlán.
Canada to try to convince the wonderkid
The CanMNT is on the verge of obtaining their ticket to the 2022 FIFA World Cup and they have a talented generation to make try and make history history. They are the only undefeated team in the round-robin CONCACAF tournament and head coach John Herdman wants to keep improving their current roster.
Herdman talked about how important the win against the USMNT was because it can help Canada recruit players who hold dual nationality and are are undecided about the country they want to represent on the international stage. Such is the case of teenager Marcelo Flores, who is eligible to represent Canada, England or Mexico.
“And be proud, just be proud that we’re talking about football in this country in a way that we've got stars now. We've got young star players that’ll be around for a long generation,” said Herdman.
