Clint Dempsey elected to National Soccer Hall of Fame
The former USMNT player will join Hope Solo and Shannon Boxx into the National Soccer Hall of Fame for the legacy they left during their playing careers.
In his first year of eligibility, Clint Dempsey has been elected to the National Soccer Hall of Fame and he will be joined by Hope Solo, Marco Etcheverry, Linda Hamilton, Esse Baharmast and Shannon Boxx. Dempsey made his debut in Major League Soccer in 2004 playing for the New England Revolution and scored 25 goals in 71 appearances over three campaigns.
In 2007 Dempsey joined Premier League side Fulham where he scored 50 goals in 189 appearances across all competitions. He joined Tottenham Hotspur for the 2012/13 season and scored seven goals in 29 appearances. After a successful stint in England he returned to MLS in 2013 to play with the Seattle Sounders and in 2016 he won the MLS Cup.
Dempsey’s legacy with the USMNT
Dempsey had a successful career at club level, but he left a bigger mark with the United States men’s national team. Dempsey is tied for the all-time leading scorer in USMNT history and scored in major tournaments like the Confederations Cup, Copa America and at four CONCACAF Gold Cups. He is also the only American male to play in three FIFA World Cups.
Hope Solo's legacy with the USWNT
Former goalkeeper Solo also had a brilliant career with the United States women’s national team, making a staggering 202 appearances between 2000 to 2016 and winning two Olympic gold medals and one FIFA Women’s World Cup. One of her biggest individual trophies was the Golden Glove at the 2011 and 2015 World Cups.
