Fiorentina could sign Castellanos after selling Vlahovic
The Tuscans sold the Serbian international for €75 million to Serie A giants Juventus and now they are in the market to buy a new striker.
Valentín ‘Taty’ Castellanos has been on the radar of several clubs in South America and Europe for some weeks now after a breakout campaign with New York City Football Club. The Argentine was linked with a move to River Plate and Palmeiras, but they can’t afford the $20 million price tag the MLS side has put on him.
Castellanos to play in Serie A
Fiorentina have sold Serbian striker Dusan Vlahovic to Juventus for €75 million and now they are searching for his replacement for the second half of the season. According to TNT Sports Brazil, the Tuscans have decided to sign NYCFC striker Castellanos before the winter transfer window closes.
Fiorentina used some of the money that they received from Vlahovic to sign Basel’s Arthur Cabral and Krzysztof Piatek from Hertha Berlin, but they are in search of another striker. The Serie A side has started to negotiate with the New York-based team and a deal could be reached by the end of the week.
The Major League Soccer side won’t accept any offer from Fiorentina that is less than $15 million because of the season he had in 2021 and because he is under contract until 2025. New York City FC is hopeful they can retain him for the upcoming campaign and make a run to win back-to-back MLS Cup’s.
