Washington Football Team to reveal new name and logo
The Washington Football Team is revealing its new name on Wednesday, and we know it will not be the Red Wolves. What other name options are we looking at?
Following 18 months of market research, the Washington Football Team will finally reveal its new name and logo on Wednesday.
The NFL franchise that’s been known as the Washington Redskins for the last 83 years has been pressured to change its name due to its racist connotations.
In selecting the new name and a fresh identity to Washinghton’s team, team officials have held focus groups and received more than 40,000 fans’ submissions.
More on NFL:
Last September, team CEO Tanya Snyder shared eight unofficial finalists on an ESPN podcast: Armada, Brigade, Commanders, Defenders, Presidents, Red Hogs, Red Wolves and, yes, Washington Football Team.
Team president Jason Wright, however, confirmed in August that there may be additional names in play. And just a month ago, Wright said that Red Wolves is no longer an option because of trademark issues.
Last week, the non-official name, "Washington Commanders" got out to the public sphere and caused some murmurs, once again, around the league.
We’ll just have to wait and see if that's what Washington finally chooses, after almost two years.
