LAFC appoint Marco Antonio Garcés as Director of Football Operations
After spending seven years with Liga MX side Pachuca the 49-year-old will embrace a new chapter in Major League Soccer for the first time in his career.
More changes at Los Angeles Football Club as they prepare for the start of the 2022 Major League Soccer regular season later this month. First, they appointed Steve Cherundolo as their new manager and now they have announced that Marco Garcés will be appointed Director of Football Operations.
First time working in MLS
“It is incredibly exciting to add a football mind like Marco to our team,” LAFC Co-President & General Manager John Thorrington said. “His extensive experience in building arguably the most productive Academy in North America at Pachuca and his expertise in scouting will add great value to LAFC.”
Garcés, 49, joins LAFC after spending seven years as Sporting Director with Liga MX side Pachuca and another four as the Chief Scout and Director of Football and Sports Sciences. During his 11-year tenure, he helped Pachuca win the 2016 Liga MX title and the 2017 CONCACAF Champions League.
“I am extremely happy with the opportunity to work with LAFC and in Major League Soccer,” Garcés said. “I look forward to bringing my mix of experience working with Mexican and European players of all ages to Los Angeles. From what I have already seen, I know the future is bright for LAFC, and I am eager to start helping the club achieve its ambitious goals.”
