The United States men’s international team player came on early in the second half on Sunday in Barcelona’s 4-2 win against Atlético Madrid.

Estados UnidosUpdate:
Sergiño Dest in line for another opportunity at FC Barcelona

Sergiño Dest is trying to convince FC Barcelona’s manager Xavi that he is the right man for the job and he could receive another opportunity in the upcoming games. Dani Alves has been the starting right-back for the second part of the season, but he received a red card in Barcelona’s 4-2 win against Atlético Madrid on Sunday.

Dest had a quiet performance

In the 69th minute Alves was sent off after a nasty tackle from behind on Yannick Carrasco and left his team with 10 players with a whole lot of minutes left. Xavi responded straight away to Alves’ dismissal and Dest played at right-back for the remainder of the match, with Gavi sacrificed.

The United States international had a quiet performance, but was able to contain the right side on defense. Barcelona survived at the Camp Nou and earned the three points in the most important win since Xavi took over the managerial job. They are now in fourth place with 38 points and a record of W10-D6-L6.

With lves out of the picture for at least one game and with Sergi Roberto recovering from an injury, Dest is the clear option at right-back for the upcoming league match. Barcelona will go on the road to face Espanyol next Sunday and Dest could earn another start.
