McVay and the Rams looking for a redo in Super Bowl LVI
At 36 years old, Sean McVay already has five years of experience as head coach of the LA Rams and now has two Super Bowl appearances to add to his record.
Sean McVay is living proof that youth does not mean inexperience. At just 36 years old, the head coach of the Rams already has five years of experience as a coach in the NFL and his appearance in Super Bowl LVI represents his second visit to the league championship game.
How McVay got here
Even before he took the reins in Los Angeles, McVay had already established a reputation in the NFL. At just 22 years old, in 2011, he took his first job with the NFL as the tight ends coach for the then Washington Redskins and eventually became the offensive coordinator.
After two years as Washington’s offensive coordinator, in 2016, the team was considered the third best offense in the league (6,456 yards total) and the second best in passing yards (4,758).
McVay’s career takes off
In 2017, after three years as the now Commanders’ offensive coordinator, the Rams made history by signing McVay as their head coach, making him the youngest NFL head coach in the history of the league.
His impact on the Rams was immediate. In his first campaign with the team, he broke a 12-year playoff drought. In his second season, he brought them to the Super Bowl and in total, he has taken them to three NFC West titles.
During McVay’s time with the Rams, the team has been one of the ten most productive offenses in the league in four out of five seasons. In 2020, they were the best defense in the NFL.
After five years in Los Angeles, McVay’s Rams have a record of 55-26 in the regular season and 6-3 in the playoffs. And he’s close to sealing the Los Angeles Rams’ first Super Bowl title since 1999. The Rams are 1-3 in the Super Bowl.
