Rams' legend Eric Dickerson says he'll miss Super Bowl over ticket spat

The Los Angeles Rams have got a lot right this season, as evidenced by the fact that they are about to play in the Super Bowl. But not everything.

Whether you're a player or a fan, the idea of seeing your team play for a championship in it's very own stadium has got to be a dream come true. Even more so if you're a former player who is now a fan. Unfortunately, that probably won't be the case for former Rams player and league legend Eric Dickerson. Speaking during a recent segment of the "Maggie and Perloff Show," the Hall of Fame running back was asked whether or not he'd be present at the big game on Sunday, to which he replied quite frankly: "I don't think I'm going to the game. I'm just going to watch it on TV."

Both hosts were notably shocked by the news and as such, pressed Dickerson to reveal exactly why he would opt to miss out on what is set to be the biggest game in the franchise's recent history. The Rams' second leading rusher in their history will likely not see their fifth Super Bowl appearance unless something changes. "Let's put it like this, they wanted to give me tickets in the rafters," Dickerson explained. "In the 400s, so I said, 'I'd rather stay at home and watch it.'"

Eric Dickerson and the Rams have been here before

While one could be forgiven for thinking this whole scenario is odd, surely a team should be able to offer one of it's legendary players from the past decent seats. The reality is, however, this isn't the first time that Dickerson and the franchise have not seen eye to eye. It was back in 2016, when Dickerson abruptly stopped attending games. According to Dickerson, he was banned from the team sideline by former Rams' coach Jeff Fisher. Later, when Fisher was fired in December 2016, Dickerson was once again present and even went on to sign a one day contract with the team which allowed him to retire as a Rams player. To add further context, Dickerson was even hired to work as the team's Vice President of Business development.

While there has not yet been any comment from the team, one can imagine the Rams will be reluctant to get involved in anything that takes their focus away from preparations for Sunday's big game against the Bengals. Regardless, one can only hope that the two parties can find a solution to their standoff, as surely it can't be that hard to give a franchise and league legend a good view of what promises to be a Super Bowl for the ages.
