The Los Angeles Lakers have suffered another setback as Anthony Davis was found to have a mid-foot sprain after undergoing an MRI.

He will be out of action for at least four weeks and team doctors will re-evaluate his condition after that period.

Davis sustained the injury in the second quarter of the Lakers’ 106-10 victory against the Utah Jazz on Wednesday.

He was first suspected to have suffered a serious ankle injury, but then initial x-rays done at the Crypto.com Arena showed that there was no fracture in his foot.

Unfortunate landing

The 28-year-old went up to catch a lob pass from shooting guard Malik Monk but landed on Jazz center Rudy Gobert’s heel.

The Lakers star twisted his right ankle and collapsed to the floor. He was unable to put any weight on his foot and his teammates had to help him off the court.

The eight-time NBA All-Star scored 17 points in the 17 minutes that he played before the incident.

Davis: Plagued by injuries

It’s been a rough season for Davis, who had only recently come back to play after a knee injury left him sidelined for 17 consecutive games.

Davis had an average of 23.1 points and 9.7 rebounds for his past 37 games.

The Lakers are currently in ninth place in the Western Conference, and will be playing 11 of their remaining 24 games in the four weeks that Davis is expected to be out.

The team is six games behind the Denver Nuggets who sit at No. 6. They would have to capture that position to avoid having to compete in the Play-In Tournament in April.
