Rodgers clarifies IG post, says no decision on future yet

After a cryptic Instagram post by Aaron Rodgers set the world of football abuzz regarding his future NFL plans, the Green Bay Packers quarterback clarified that he has not yet made a decision on the matter.

Appearing on the Pat McAfee Show, he was ready to face questions regarding his ambiguous post. After being introduced, Rodgers immediately addressed people who might have been expecting a specific announcement, saying “there will be no news today, no decision on my future.”

Rodgers: Panchakarma cleanse left me feeling grateful

The 38-year-old explained that the outpouring of emotion shown in the post that opened with “Gratitude is the wine for the soul. Go on. Get drunk,” was mainly a result of a process he had just gone through. Rodgers had just come out of a 12-day Panchakarma cleanse- a purgative therapy to balance body functions by flushing out toxins.

Rodgers said the cleanse, which he called "PK", re-centered him, healed him physically, mentally, and spiritually, and left him feeling thankful.

“There’s nothing cryptic about gratitude,” he said, in reference to his post being described as enigmatic.

Panchakarma certainly left the 2021 NFL MVP waxing philosophical, and he was mostly reflective in his interview. He said that after the therapy, he was looking at photos and he was filled with gratitude “for the life that I have, and for the lessons that I’ve learned, and the growth that’s happened on the last year and the people who’ve been a part of that journey."

Football friendships

Photos he posted of teammates Randall Cobb and Davante Adams on Instagram caused a lot of speculation. They were construed as a farewell message of sorts, but Rodgers said he was simply sentimental about those moments, and even admitted that looking at them brought tears to his eyes.

“It’s a part of the pregame ritual but also a statement about friendship and love and the connection that we have collectively and individually in our own friendships,” he said.

Peace with the Packers

The quarterback had been vocal in his dissatisfaction with the Packers before the 2021 season began, but it seems like he has made his peace with them.

The 10-time Pro Bowler had good words for the organization, sharing that he ended the season on much better terms than they were on at the the start.

He said he “had a good year of communication” with the franchise. "There were some real honest conversations that I appreciated."

Decision on future "won't be long"

Rodgers did spend the last few minutes of the 41-minute interview talking about his future in football. “I don’t have anxiety about the decision,” he said.

“I am looking forward to making the decision, and moving forward I think it’s best for me, it’s best for the team, it’s best for all parties involved.

“There’s conversations to be had and a few more things to contemplate, but it won’t be long... I wanna feel certain about it and when I do I’ll make a decision and we’ll just move on and move forward.”

Rodgers may have clarified his Instagram post, but it seems we still have to wait a little bit longer to get true clarity about whether he will retire this year, stay with Green Bay, or move to another team.
