Update:
The Knicks Derrick Rose has had yet another set back on his road to recovery. The point guard had yet another operation on his injured foot on Friday.

The Knicks star has had a rough road to recovery and it now seems that it's set to continue for a while yet having suffered recent complications with his injury.

Knicks Derrick Rose has another operation

According to reports, New York Knicks Derrick Rose underwent another operation on his right ankle on Friday. As per reports, the procedure was performed in an effort to address a skin infection. The unfortunate news comes on the heels of recent comments by the franchise, which suggested that Rose would soon be ready to play for the team once again. While no clear time frame for Rose's return was given, it is understood that the Knicks are optimistic that he can return to the active roster in approximately two weeks.

How did Derrick Rose get here?

It was back on December 16th 2021 in a game against the Houston Rockets, when the 33-year-old point guard last played a game for the Knicks. Forced off the court in that game due to the injury, Rose would eventually undergo an operation to remove a bone spur from the ankle on December 22nd. While he did recently begin to participate in practice fully, it's understood that all was not well such that he finally had to go under the knife again to deal with an infection in the area on which he originally had surgery. Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau struck a somewhat positive tone when describing the situation. "He actually went through practice pretty well," Thibodeau said. "So, just one of those things." As for what happens next, Thibodeau added that he had no other information aside from the fact that the procedure was a success.

The New York Knicks as they stand right now

While Rose's absence is undoubtedly a blow to the Knicks and even more so now, considering that Kemba Walker has just been declared out for the season, Thibodeau was quick to express his belief that the team can cope. Alec Burks and Immanuel Quickley will continue to be the two point guards that will be called upon while rookie Miles McBride will also likely get minutes as the Knicks try to right themselves as they prepare for a playoff push.

Regardless the Knicks will know full well that Rose will be a much needed boost when he returns. After arriving last season due to a midseason trade, Rose's effect was immediate. He would eventually finish third in voting for the Sixth Man Award. Without him the Knicks have definitely struggled as he was - at the time of his injury - their best attacker with a shooting average of 53%. The Knicks for their part most recently lost to the Miami Heat 115-100 on Friday. With that they are now on a 23-35 record and sit in 12th place in the Eastern Conference. They are 3.5 games behind the Atlanta Hawks who hold on to the last play-in spot in the conference.
