Sergiño Dest has earned the trust of Barcelona coach Xavi

Last month, Sergiño Dest's future at Camp Nou was up in the air. But since then he has slowly been earning the trust of manager Xavi Hernández. The United States international made his third consecutive league start in Barcelona’s 4-0 win against Athletic Club and played the entire 90 minutes.

Xavi has praised the improvement of Sergiño Dest and a result of that is that he has played the last five league matches and four of them as a starter. Dest gives Xavi solutions and not problems. Against Athletic, he played as a left-full back as Jordi Alba was not available and gave another solid performance.

Dest wants to stay in Barcelona

Since the 21-year-old arrived in Barcelona last season, he has been playing mainly as a right-back, but with the national team he plays on the left. Xavi has also used Dest as a right winger and this versatility opens the door for him to play more minutes. During the winter transfer window several teams were keen on signing the 21-year-old and Barça were willing to let him go for the right offer.

But it seemed that no team was willing to pay his transfer fee and Dest’s agent confirmed that he will remain at the Camp Nou at least until the end of the current season. With hard work and patience, the USMNT defender has been earning a key role in the starting XI and earning merits to remain with the team for the next campaign.
