What's the record for most points in an NBA half?

Kyrie Irving could not be stopped in Brooklyn's 150-108 win over the Orlando Magic, but the Nets guard's 41 first half points fell short of the NBA record.

Kyrie Irving was on fire in the Brooklyn Nets 150-108 win over the Orlando Magic on Wednesday. He dropped 41 in the first half in route to 60 on the night.

There was no stopping Kyrie Irving on Tuesday night in Orlando as the Nets guard dropped 60 points in Brooklyn’s 150-108 win over the Magic.

Kyrie still can't play in NY

Due to covid restrictions in the state of New York, the Nets were without their super star scorer for much of the year, and still can not use him during home games because of the mandate that prohibits the unvaccinated from working out in gyms and arenas.

Irving seems to be making up for lost time in the Nets’ recent road games as he has put up some dazzling performances, even for his high standards.

It started with his 50 point performance against the Hornets in Charlotte last week. The former Duke Blue Devil hit the half century mark on 15-19 shooting while dishing out six assists in Brooklyn’s 132-121 win.

Irving outdoes himself

Irving seems as though he is just now hitting stride after making his debut against the Indiana Pacers in early January.

While the 50 points against the Hornets was impressive, it will be hard to top what he did at Amway Arena. The Nets started their road game against the lowly Orlando Magic red hot scoring 48 first quarter points, and heading to halftime up 86-56.

Kyrie Irving erupted in the first half, scoring 41 points through the first two quarter of the game in route to a 60 point night. He hit 20 of his 31 field goals and pulled down six rebounds in the Nets’ 42 point win over Orlando.

Chamberlain holds record for most points in a half

It was the most spectacular performance in a half since Devin Booker went for 51 in the second half of his 70 point game against the Celtics in 2017. Irving came just shy of the most points scored in the first half of and NBA game, which was set by Kobe Bryant when he scored 42 against the Wizards in 2003.

Wilt Chamberlain holds the all-time record for points in a half. Not surprisingly it came in his 100-point game in 1962. The former Philadelphia Warrior went for 41 in the first half against the New York Knicks, and followed that up with 59 for a perfect 100 point game in the 169-147 win

While it is still uncertain if Kyrie will be able to play home games for Brooklyn, one thing seems to be sure. Irving is going to keep getting stronger as the season goes on which will make the Nets a scary team come playoff time, especially when Ben Simmons makes his debut.
