Terron Armstead waiting for Saints to decide
One of the best offensive tackles in the NFL stands to make a big payday, unless the Saints manage to get their hands on the hottest quarterback on offer
When it became apparent that Civil War was inevitable in the United States, President Lincoln asked his best general, a man named Robert E. Lee, to lead the union forces into battle. Torn by his loyalty to his country and his state, Lee famously responded to the President that he would wait and see if Virginia would secede or not before making his decision. As goes Virginia, so will I go.
Terron Armstead is one of the hottest properties in the NFL. The 3 time Prow Bowl offensive tackle is being courted by virtually every team in the league, with Miami and Chicago trying to outdo each other for his attention. He will command a salary in the region of $60 million. But with each passing day, there is a frustrating silence from Armstead. What is holding him back?
The rumor circulating the league is that, like General Lee, Armstead is waiting to see where Deshaun Watson goes before he decides what to do next. The New Orleans Saints players have lobbied hard for Watson and are very keen to play with the Texans quarterback.
If Watson signs with the Saints, rumor is that Armstead will decide to stay with the team, even though it means he would have to accept a pay cut. The Saints are already in the red and can’t afford his price tag, but if they could keep him on a cut rate, that would be a deal the team would jump at.
The pursuit of Watson has parted opinions among the Saints fans, and understandably so. But the front office and the players themselves are confident that he is a prize worth pursuing. It would seem that Terron Armstead might agree with that.
