Christian Pulisic talks about playing England in the World Cup
The United States men’s national team ace confirmed that he received a phone call from Chelsea teammate Mason Mount at the end of the World Cup draw.
The 2022 FIFA World Cup draw took place on Friday and the United States will be in the same group as England, Iran and the winner of the European playoff. The USMNT was drawn in Group B and they will make their debut against Iran and on 25 November, on Black Friday, they will play the European side on matchday 2 of the group stage.
Pulisic received a call from a teammate
The United States men’s national team is confident they can advance to the round of 16 and there is a high expectation with the golden generation. Christian Pulisic is one of the most important players for the USMNT and during an interview with Sky Sports, the 23-year-old talked about his expectations in the upcoming campaign.
“Of course playing against England is exciting. It’s funny you know, the first call I got was from Mason [Mount] on my team and we’re already talking, excited, looking forward to the game. It’s obviously a big team [England] and I know a lot of these guys but I think it’s a really nice match up and something that we’re definitely excited about,” said Pulisic.
This is a favorable matchup for the United States because they have never lost against England in two previous World Cup meetings. The first time was in 1950 and the CONCACAF side won 1-0. The second time was in 2010 and that game ended in a 1-1 draw with Steven Gerrard scoring for England and Clint Dempsey for the United States.
