England has yet to defeat the USMNT in a World Cup
The 2022 FIFA World Cup draw took place on Friday in Doha, Qatar and the United States were drawn in Group B alongside England, Iran and the winner of the European playoff.
We are seven months away from witnessing a historic FIFA World Cup. It will be the first time a World Cup will be held during the winter due to the high temperatures in the summer in Qatar. The draw took place on Friday in Doha and the United States men’s national team seemed quite pleased after learning who their rivals will be in the group stage.
The Pot 1 team was England that led Group B, followed by the United States, Iran and the winner of the European playoff between Wales, Scotland or Ukraine. The USMNT will start the tournament playing the winner of the European playoff, then England and conclude the group stage against Iran.
The USMNT to play on Black Friday
The second match of Group B between the United States and England will be played on 25 November, during Black Friday. This is a favorable matchup for the CONCACAF side as they have never lost in a World Cup against the Three Lions in two previous meetings. The first time they saw each other was in 1950 and the USMNT won by 1-0 in Belo Horizonte and that result is still one of the biggest upsets in the competition’s history.
The United States men’s national team will face England for the third time in World Cup history. Steven Gerrard scored an early goal for the Three Lions last time out, but before the break, Clint Dempsey scored the equalizer. After three matchdays, the United States finished in joint-top, but behind England because of a worse goal difference. So history favors the USMNT when facing the Three Lions in a World Cup.
