The reaction to the new adidas x Bob Marley collection has been overwhelmingly positive, with fans and fashion critics praising its “soulful” authenticity and historical depth.

The Bob Marley x adidas “Football is Freedom” range launched late last week and honors the legendary reggae musician’s lifelong passion for football and his belief that the sport serves as a universal tool for liberation and unity.

Marlay was a good friend of Johnny Giles, a huge reggae fan if you can believe it, and the diminutive Ireland midfielder had a backstage pass for the concert in Dalyer. ⚽ ☘️ #thebeautifulgame pic.twitter.com/CJ3tRKDkbH

The collection was developed between the German based sportswear brand and the Bob Marley Foundation and timed to celebrate what would have been Marley’s 80th birthday.
“Football is Freedom”
The phrase “Football is Freedom” was a personal mantra of Bob Marley as the collection draws heavily from the 1970s—the “golden era” of both Marley’s career and his casual football matches. Adidas designers used archival photographs to recreate specific pieces Marley actually wore, blending retro aesthetics with modern materials.
The 8-piece collection features “off-pitch” lifestyle apparel and classic footwear including a Gazelle Indoor shoe, a two versions of the classic SL 72 RS training shoe.
