Lovecraft County actor Jonathan Majors has spoken of being “shocked” and “afraid” after being found guilty of “reckless assault in the 3rd degree and a non-criminal charge of harassment as a violation”, for which he could face jail time.

In an exclusive interview on Good Morning America on Monday, the 34-year-old addressed his conviction, which has led to him being dropped from two future Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) projects, namely “Avengers: The Kang Dynasty” (2026) and “Avengers: Secret Wars” (2027). Majors has previously starred in MCU series Loki, as well as the movie “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania”.

Majors accused of a assault and harassment in domestic dispute

The Yale School of Drama graduate had pleaded not guilty to two misdemeanour counts of assault and harassment after being accused by former girlfriend, Grace Jabbari.

Jabbari claimed Majors had fractured her finger and caused a cut behind her ear during a domestic dispute in March 2023, which he has consistently denied. “That did not happen. I was reckless with her heart. Not with her body,” Majors told anchor Linsey Davis, also saying he “wished to God he knew” how she had sustained the injuries.

The actor admitted the dispute had stemmed from Jabbari’s discovery that he had received text messages from another woman and that he “shouldn’t have stepped out of the relationship”. Street surveillance footage captured the incident and appears to show a struggle between the pair before Jabbari chases Majors through the street after he took his phone and ran off.

“Lack of remorse” deemed “not at all surprising”

Following the interview, a representative for Jabbari told CNN “it is not at all surprising Mr. Majojrs continues to take no responsibility for his actions” and that “the timing of these new statements demonstrates a clear lack of remorse for the actions for which he was found guilty.”

How long could Major go to jail for?

Majors, who plans to appeal, is due to be sentenced on 5 February and may face up to a year in prison for the assault conviction. The harassment violation could carry a punishment of an additional 15 days in jail, along with a fine of $250.
