Damson Idris joins Brad Pitt in Formula 1 movie by ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ director
‘Snowfall’ star Damson Idris is set to join Brad Pitt in an untitled F1 film.
Brad Pitt’s co-star has been cast in his next film, Apple’s upcoming Formula 1 film, with Damson Idris set to play the lead alongside the Hollywood legend.
After multiple auditions and several grueling driving tests, Idris, known for his work in ‘Black Mirror’, ‘Snowfall’, and ‘Swarm’, made the final cut to appear in the feature film.
The ‘Maverick’ team
The movie, yet to be titled, will be directed by ‘Top Gun: Maverick’ director, Joseph Kosinski. The director reportedly prefers “naturalistic effects”, and so whomever was cast as the starring role needed to be able to drive. Fast.
Several members on the creative team are coming from the ‘Maverick’ production, including Jerry Bruckheimer as producer, and Ehren Kruger as screenplay writer.
Who is involved in Brad Pitt’s upcoming Formula 1 movie?
Also producing the film is Lewis Hamilton, a seven-time Formula 1 champion. Hamilton will be leading the production through his company, Dawn Apollo. Penni Thow is also an executive producer.
Formula 1, its participants, and the FIA (Federation Internationale de l’Automobile) are participating in the project as well.
‘Top Gun: Maverick’, the 2022 sequel to Tom Cruise’s 1986 classic, ‘Top Gun’, was a huge hit at the global box office, and fans are looking for the upcoming racing film to be no different.
While Pitt was the first actor cast in the upcoming racing movie, followed by the recent announcement pertaining Idris, the rest of the cast is yet to be announced.
What do we know about the plot so far?
Pitt’s character is a retired race-car driver who is eyeing up one more chance to win.
Enter the upcoming star, the young driver played by Idris. Pitt’s character comes out of retirement to mentor the rising star.
The Apple movie is reported to have a theater release as well as streaming on AppleTV+.
