Doja Cat has some criticism for her previous work. In a recent series of Twitter posts, the rapper, singer, and musician is dragging her last two albums ‘Hot Pink’ and ‘Planet Her’.

The artist told her fans that the 2019 and 2021 albums were ‘“cash-grabs,” before announcing the name of her upcoming album. Doja Cat has been vocal about her upcoming project over the last couple of months, explaining how it will be a drastic change in genre and sounds compared to her previous records.

“planet her and hot pink were cash-grabs and yall fell for it,” Doja Cat tweeted. “now i can go disappear somewhere and touch grass with my loved ones on an island while yall weep for mediocre pop.”

The musician also has an earlier album ‘Amala,’ released in 2018, and EP ‘Purrr!’ released in 2014 which she refrained from criticizing. While ‘Amala’ was also considered a pop album, ‘Purrr!’ was classified as R&B.

Retiring from the pop genre

Doja Cat also dismissed pop music entirely, explaining how it no longer excites her to make. “pop isnt exciting to me anymore. I dont wanna make it,” she wrote in a Tweet replying to a fan.

After announcing her retirement from pop music, the musician also announced some more exciting news, the name of her upcoming album.

While it was previously believed that Doja Cat was hinting her new album would be titled ‘Hellmouth,’ the ‘Kiss Me More’ singer confirmed that the official title would be ‘First of All.’

Previous album success

Doja Cat’s album ‘Planet Her’ has been a massive success since its release in June 2021. The album debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 chart and has remained in the top 10 for several weeks.

‘Planet Her’ features collaborations with popular artists like The Weeknd, Ariana Grande, and SZA, and has been praised for its unique blend of pop, R&B, and hip-hop. The album’s lead single, “Kiss Me More,” featuring SZA, has also been a chart-topping hit.

Overall, ‘Planet Her’ and its following success has solidified Doja Cat’s place as one of the most exciting and innovative artists in the music industry today.
