Everything you need to know about Britt Lower: The actress from ‘Severance’ that everyone is talking about
Season 2 of Ben Stiller’s science fiction psychological thriller, in which Lower stars, was recently released on AppleTV+.

Britt Lower has become a familiar face to many thanks to her role in AppleTV+ series ‘Severance,’ which has received a significant amount of critical acclaim since it premiered in February 2022.
In case you missed it, the first episode of season 2 of the science fiction psychological thriller, executively produced and primarily directed by Ben Stiller, was released on January 17, with the 10th and final episode set for March 21.
Without giving too much away, the series tells the story of employees working on highly classified projects at a biotechnology corporation who undergo a medical procedure called a ‘severance,’ which makes them lose all memories of the outside world while at work, and all memories of their work while outside.
Each character has two personalities, an ‘Innie’ while at work, and an ‘Outie’ living their private lives. Lower has captured the imagination by playing Helly Riggs, a newly severed employee who is an especially rebellious ‘Innie’.
Lower’s acting career to date
In an interview with Flaunt, Lower revealed why she was so keen to take on the role of Helly: “I was drawn to her sense of humor and vulnerability juxtaposed with this strong exterior. I felt so much humanity in her. She has a keen sense of what is ethical and is not afraid to stand up to authority.”
Many of us will be familiar with some of the 39-year-old’s previous work. Earlier in her career, Lower appeared in 13 episodes of police crime drama ‘Unforgettable,’ which broadcast on CBS and then A&E between 2011 and 2016. The Illinois native then had a regular role in FXX romantic comedy ‘Man Seeking Woman’.
Lower, who got a Bachelor of Science in Communication from Northwestern University in her home state in 2008, has also had brief roles in ‘Law & Order,’ ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ and ‘American Horror Stories,’ although her work in ‘Severance’ has been her most appreciated.
She was named Best Actress in a Streaming Series, Drama at the Hollywood Critics Association Television Awards in 2022 and was nominated for a similar prize at the Saturn Awards that same year.
The circus dominates Britt Lower’s love life
The actress has achieved the seemingly unachievable in keeping her private life out of the spotlight, with very little known about her marital status or any previous relationships. Lower has, instead, previously spoken of her love for the circus, which she joined during a break in filming in 2022.
“I’ve just been obsessed with the circus as a performance art for my whole life,” she told People. “I like the pomp and circumstance, the fun of it, and I like a little bit of mischief in fashion.”
“I joined an American one-ring circus and performed for a whole month as a character named Steven, who played the ukulele. But I got to perform with the Flying Wallenda family, the tightrope walkers. It was just a lifelong dream come true to be performing alongside my heroes.”
