Selena Gomez is Instagram’s most-followed woman, though the singing superstar has had an on-again, off-again relationship with the social media platform.

Gomez’s most popular Instagram posts are photos and content that is candid and inspiring. Her viral selfie without makeup and her post-kidney surgery bathing suit posts are among the singer’s Instagram posts to make it to 1 million likes the fastest.

The infamous selfie with no makeup

Selena Gomez, now famously, posted a photo of herself on Instagram completely makeup-free. The singer pouts into the camera with a freshly scrubbed face, wearing a simple black tank top and her hair loose.

“Violet chemistry,” Gomez wrote simply in the caption, quoting a Miley Cyrus song.

Paris Hilton reacted with a heart-eyed emoticon, along with many fans and friends of the superstar.

“The queen is queening,” one fan wrote. “There she goes in all her glory,” said another.

“Dear anyone hating on Selena, please do everyone a favor and unphotoshop your pictures and take natural ones before speaking,” chirped a third person.

The birthday in Italy

Selena Gomez spent her 30th birthday in Italy, and her birthday post skyrocketed to over 1 million followers.

Gomez wears a soft, floral summer dress as she poses among the magnificent landmarks in Italy.

The childhood photograph

When Gomez posted a photo of herself as a child, it became one of her most popular posts ever. In the picture, a young Gomez, around the age of nine, smiles happily into the camera, with her hair in a ponytail and wearing a yellow tee shirt.

Dear younger me, please don’t be afraid to ask for help,” Gomez wrote in the caption.

“Today is International Women’s Day and I want each of us to be gentler to ourselves,” the singer continued. “Write your younger self a @RareBeauty #rarereminder and stick it on your mirror to remind yourself that you deserve the world. Love you.”

The blue, one-piece bathing suit

Gomez, who has received a kidney transplant, posted a photo of herself in an elegant, one-piece bathing suit with a discussion about how she deals with having the scar remaining.

“When I got my kidney transplant, I remember it being very difficult at first showing my scar,” Gomez wrote in the caption.

I didn’t want it to be in photos, so I wore things that would cover it up,” the star continued. “Now, more than ever, I feel confident in who I am and what I went through...and I’m proud of that.”
