The Oscar-winning director Martin Scorsese says he has stopped going to the movie theater to watch films.
The legendary Hollywood director Martin Scorsese says he no longer watches films at the movie theater, because of the behavior of his fellow cinema-goers.
Per The Guardian, the movie critic Peter Travers revealed in a recent blog post that Scorsese feels too distracted by the hubbub of activity going on around him as he tries to concentrate on the picture.
“He went all raging bull...”
Travers wrote: “I asked the maestro why he doesn’t see movies in theatres any more and he went all raging bull about audiences who babble on phones during the movie, leave to order snacks and vats of soda, and keep up a noise level loud enough to drown out the actors.”
When Travers suggested that Scorsese was probably equally as noisy a viewer in his youth, the 82-year-old replied: “Yeah, maybe, but when we talked it was always about the movie and the fun we had chewing over the details.”
“Code of Conduct”
Scorsese, who won the Best Director Oscar for his 2006 film The Departed, would surely offer a full endorsement of the cinema “Code of Conduct” created by the British journalists Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo.
