It’s like ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ but in Mexico and with Eva Longoria: This is ‘Necaxa’ the Mexican soccer docuseries
A collaboration between Longoria, Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds, the series was released via Disney+ internationally.

The profile of Wrexham AFC has transformed dramatically since November 2020 when Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney became the new owners of the football club from North Wales.
The Hollywood duo helped generate global interest in the affairs of the then struggling club, boosted by the Disney+ “Welcome to Wrexham” documentary, which showcased the trials and tribulations as the pair started to become more and more invested (financially and emotionally) with the club from the working class town in the north of Wales.
The series has generated legions of ‘Red Dragons’ fans across the world and has been commissioned for a fifth season which will track the Welsh outfit as they prepare for life in the EFL Championship (second tier of the English football pyramid).
I have the greatest job in sports. All I have to do is sit back, watch the game and be eternally grateful. I’ve been blessed to meet the greatest people in the world. pic.twitter.com/yziB6wQH5f

‘Welcome to ....Necaxa’
Released globally on August 7, “Necaxa” focuses on the Liga MX side by the same name and the documentary is heavily inspired by “Welcome to Wrexham”.
Both Reynolds and McElhenney are also investors in Club Necaxa, along with Eva Longoria, who is a key executive producer and an on-screen presence in the Necaxa series.

The series offers unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to Club Necaxa during a “turbulent and transformational era” with the team still bedding into their relocation in the city of Aguascalientes since moving from the Mexican capital in 2003.

The challenges and instability the club has faced, including relocations and periods of reinvention are all featured along with the emotional journeys of the players, highlighting staff shake-ups and career-defining injuries.
With success a scarcity in the club’s recent history, the series also showcases the passion and unwavering belief of the club’s (new) diehard fans in Aguascalientes as the new ownership group, including Longoria, Reynolds, and McElhenney attempt to revitalize the club.
Jack Seale from The Guardian doesn’t think it quite hits the spot.
