J Balvin’s new album ‘Rayo’: Tracklist, collaborations and where to listen to it
The Colombian artist’s eighth studio album hits stores with featured guests including Chencho Corleone, Bad Gyal and Omar Courtz among others.
Reggaetón pioneer J Balvin is back with a new studio album Rayo which drops today in multiple physical and digital formats and as always, features a host of guest artists.
‘The Boy From Medellín’ - the second-most-streamed Latin artist on Spotify with hits such as LA CANCIÓN, Mi Gente and I Like It, returns with his eighth studio album, inspired by his first car which his father bought him and which stars, wing doors wide open, on the front cover.
‘Polvo de tu Vida’ and ‘En Alta’ rack up 35 million streams
That car, the artist explains, helped him to broaden his audience and get his music to other neighborhoods, clubs, and schools. He’d sell CDs and clothes from the trunk at various events when he was just starting out. So in many ways, Rayo is about going back to his roots, to the start of his journey.
Among the collaborators this time around is Puerto Rican singer Chencho Corleone who makes an appearance in the first single from the album, Polvo de tu Vida, which has already racked up close to 17 million streams.
Which guests artists appear on J Balvin’s new album Rayo?
Spanish artist SAIKO guests on the follow-up, Gaga which has notched in excess of 7 million streams since its release last month. Other collaborators include: Luar La L, Feid, Bad Gyal, Zion, Dei V, Ryan Castro, Blessd, Carin León, Omar Courtz, YOVNGCHIMI, Quevedo, Mambo Kingz and DJ Luian.
J Balvin explained how he got the idea for the album: “Rayo played a big role in the reggaetón history of Medellín. It’s about returning to my essence, to who I was when I made music with no pretensions, without thinking about numbers or streams, but just enjoying it like a little kid”.
Rayo is released 9 August on CD format priced at $12.00 and limited edition cassette priced at $18.00. There are also limited edition signed copies, with alternative cover artwork available exclusively from the J Balvin’s official website.
The album is also available as a digital download to US-based customers only for $4.99, in 44.1khz/24-bit MP3 format. It can also be streamed on Spotify, Apple Music, Youtube Music, iTunes, Tidal, Deezer and Amazon Music.
