Jennifer Lawrence is biting her tongue on Trump’s politics: “Celebrities do not make a difference whatsoever”
Lawrence says she’s learned that speaking out on Trump “doesn’t change votes” and only fuels Hollywood drama.

Jennifer Lawrence was one of President Trump’s most outspoken celebrity critics during his first term in office between 2017 and 2021. The Academy Award winner has, however, reined in her criticism during the Republican’s second term, though not because she has changed her opinion.
“Celebrities do not make a difference”
Lawrence has largely opted to keep her views to herself in recent years because she believes “celebrities do not make a difference whatsoever on who people vote for,” as she explained during an appearance on “The Interview” podcast from The New York Times.
The 35-year-old said she has had to come to terms with the fact that Trump was elected by Americans for a second time despite his first term being “so wild.”
“The second term feels different,” Lawrence said. “Because he said what he was going to do. We knew what he did for four years. He was very clear. And that’s what we chose.”
Lawrence: “I don’t want to be a part of the problem”
The “Hunger Games” star now feels that speaking out against the current administration is counterproductive.
“I’m just sharing my opinion on something that’s going to add fuel to a fire that’s ripping the country apart,” she said. “We are so divided. If I can’t say something that’s going to speak to some kind of peace or lowering the temperature or some sort of solution, I don’t want to be a part of the problem. I don’t want to make the problem worse.”
Balancing politics and her career
Lawrence has also learned how expressing her political views can affect her professional life, both positively and negatively.

“With this temperature and the way things can turn out, I don’t want to start turning people off to films and to art that could change consciousness or change the world because they don’t like my political opinions,” said the Kentucky native. “I want to protect my craft so that you can still get lost in what I’m doing.”
Lawrence expresses politics through her work
Lawrence believes she can still express her views to a certain degree through the projects she chooses.
“I try to express my politics through my work,” she said. “A lot of movies coming out from my production company are expressions of the political landscape, and that’s how I feel like I can be helpful.”
