Just two years after tying the knot, it appears that Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s relationship could be heading for divorce. Rumors of a rupture began circulating last month, when the Oscar winner was a notable absentee at the MET Gala - while J-Lo attended the event unaccompanied, unlike the previous year when they were both hand in hand on the red carpet.
Those rumors intensified as time wore on. The pair had not been seen in public for several weeks as it emerged that Affleck was staying at a separate apartment in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles, far from the family home. Over seven weeks have passed since they were last seen out together. What’s happened? This is what we know so far.

The 54-year-old singer and 51-year-old actor have not made any public statement to deny or conform the rumors about a possible split. Earlier this month, several media outlets captured Affleck coming and going from a residence in Brentwood, which suggests that the couple were no longer living together in their Beverly Hills mansion.
“The writing is on the wall – it’s over. They’re headed for a divorce; and for once, [Ben’s] not to blame!” an insider told In Touch. “Ben already moved out and they’ll likely have to sell the dream house they spent two years searching for. They’ll never stop loving each other, but she can’t control him, and he can’t change her. There’s no way it could have lasted”.
Ben Affleck, focused on work
Despite the rumors, a different source revealed to TMZ that, Affleck is fully immersed in his work and for that reason, decided to skip the MET Gala, as the event clashed with filming. Apart from that, keen-eyed observers will have noticed that press photos show both Jennifer and Ben still wearing their respective wedding rings, which suggests that the divorce gossip doesn’t have much substance.
The ‘Bennifer’ relationship
The couple were first romantically linked at the start of the 2000s. In November 2002, they announced their engagement, but it never led to marriage and ‘Bennifer’ split up. After the breakup, Affleck wed Jennifer Garner, while J-Lo married salsa star Marc Anthony. Both of those marriages ended in bitter divorce.
Then, 17 years later, the two celebrities rekindled their romance. This time the reunion ended at the altar and the couple have been married for two years.
On Thursday, Affleck and J-Lo were finally spotted in public for the first time in 47 days. The couple attended a school show for Ben’s 15-year-old child Fin Affleck. According to one eyewitness, the pair arrived separately, meeting in the school parking lot. “They did not hug or kiss, and Ben did not look happy to see J-Lo as she arrived at a show for one of his kids. They are putting on a united front,” an insider explained although the singer was seen beaming and clutching a bouquet of flowers as they headed inside for the show.
