Jennifer Lopez reveals dramatic new look in ‘The Mother’ posters

The Netflix film starring Jennifer Lopez is set to be released later in May.

Update:
The Netflix film starring Jennifer Lopez is set to be released later in May.

Jennifer Lopez is taking a dramatic turn from her typical rom-com movies. The actress is set to star in Netflix’s upcoming R-rated action drama ‘The Mother.’

The movie is described as following “a deadly female assassin who comes out of hiding to protect the daughter that she gave up years before, while on the run from dangerous men.”

Netflix previously released a one-minute-long teaser trailer that shows Lopez in the snowy woods, driving recklessly down a crowded street and shooting guns.

“You saw what was out there,” she says, presumably to her on-screen daughter. “It’s gonna keep coming. If there’s trouble, come find me.”

Just this week Lopez debuted two promotional posters for her upcoming lead role. The longtime actress and singer posted the shots to her Twitter account on Monday.

The photography is done by award-winning American photographer Annie Leibovitz, who is known for her portraits. Lopez also announces that the official trailer will be released the following day.

In the two shots, Lopez is looking stoic in a fur-lined winter coat. The first poster shows Lopez carrying a backpack and the second one is an extreme close-up shot of her face staring into the camera.

Everything we know about ‘The Mother’

‘The Mother’ is set to be released on Netflix on May 12. The film is directed by Niki Caro and also stars Joseph Fiennes, Lucy Paez, Omari Hardwick, Paul Raci, and Gael Garcia Bernal.

The movie was shot at various filming locations in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Lopez will also have a producer role.

Lopez’s history with Netflix

‘The Mother’ is part of Lopez’s multiyear production deal with Netflix. In 2022, she released a documentary with the streaming service, ‘Halftime’ that chronicles her Super Bowl Halftime show with Shakira, and her experience filming ‘Hustlers’ and performing at the 2021 presidential inauguration.

Lopez is also set to star in a Netflix murder-mystery adaption of the bestselling book ‘The Cipher’ by Isabella Maldonado. The actress will play FBI agent Nina Guerrera, who finds herself drawn to a serial killer’s case after he strategically posts complex riddles online.
