Justin Timberlake launches new album: release date and how to listen to ‘Everything I Thought It Was’
Timberlake, who is due to head off on his “Forget Tomorrow” world tour in April, is to release his sixth studio album this week.
Ahead of his 2024 world tour, which kicks off next month, Justin Timberlake is about to release his sixth studio album as a solo artist. Entitled Everything I Thought It Was, the record is due out tomorrow, Friday 15 March, having taken the former NSYNC star four years to write.
New album “incredibly honest”, Timberlake says
“Making this record was different from any other one,” Timberlake told The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon in January, explaining that the creative process was disrupted by a combination of the covid-19 pandemic and the July 2020 birth of son Phineas, his second with wife Jessica Biel.
“[With other albums] I would just go in for a block of time and say, ‘This is what we made and this is what it is.’ But during the pandemic, and having our second son, which was unbelievable, I was going back and forth.” However, despite the stop-start nature of the album’s creation, he revealed that he “ended up with like almost 100 songs”, adding: “[I] narrowed it down to 18.”
In an interview with Apple Music earlier this year, Timberlake said of Everything I Thought It Was: “I think there are moments that are incredibly honest, but also, there’s a lot of fucking fun on this album.” The 43-year-old released the album’s first single, “Selfish”, in late January, before following that track up with “Drown” in February.
How can I listen to Everything I Thought It Was?
Everything I Thought It Was is available to pre-order in a range of formats either directly from Timberlake’s official website, or from a number of stores. You can also pre-add/pre-save the record on platforms such as Spotify, Amazon Music and Apple Music.
Timberlake and NSYNC reunite for rare show
Ahead of Friday’s release, Timberlake this week delighted NSYNC fans by reuniting with the boy band for a Los Angeles show. During his “One Night Only” concert at LA’s The Wiltern on Wednesday, the singer - who left the group in 2002 - performed alongside JC Chasez, Joey Fatone, Chris Kirkpatrick and Lance Bass for the first time since 2013.
The quintet ran through a series of NSYNC’s hits together, and sang his new track “Paradise”, which features on Everything I Thought It Was as a collaboration with the band.
When is Justin Timberlake going on tour?
Timberlake’s “Forget Tomorrow” world tour gets underway on 29 April, when he takes to the stage at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, Canada. A run of shows that includes a total of 77 dates in North America and Europe, “Forget Tomorrow” is slated to come to an end at Indianapolis’ Gainbridge Fieldhouse on 16 December.
