Kate Middleton has undergone successful surgery for an abdominal problem at the London Clinic and is currently recovering from the procedure.

The Princess of Wales is expected to convalesce in the hospital for 10 to 14 days after what was described as “planned abdominal surgery”, and will be unable to perform her public duties for three months. This period could possibly extend beyond Easter, as reported by Kensington Palace through an official statement.

After her hospital stay, she will recover at home in Windsor with her husband and children and is expected to return to her activities around April.

The official royal statement

“Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales was admitted to hospital yesterday for planned abdominal surgery. The surgery was successful and it is expected that she will remain in hospital for ten to fourteen days, before returning home to continue her recovery,” the statement began.

“Based on current medical advice, she is unlikely to return to public duties until after Easter,” the statement added.

Prince William to support Middleton during her recovery

The announcement indicated that the princess would like her medical information to remain private, and that she wished to maintain a semblance of normality for the sake of her children.

Therefore, Kensington Palace will only provide more information in case there are relevant new developments to share. The statement also says Middleton apologizes for any inconvenience she may have caused because of the resulting cancelled commitments.

According to People magazine, Prince William is understood to also be suspending his public duties in the early days of his wife’s recovery to support her as well as to help take care of their three children.
