Legendary rock star releases new album in 2025 inspired by Prince and tension at the premiere of Purple Rain

Stevie Nicks is putting the finishing touches on her new eagerly anticipated studio record which is expected to see the light of day later in 2025 or even early 2026.

Last week, Nicks appeared at the 2025 Pollstar Awards after she was inducted into the Pollstar Live! Hall of Fame and offered some insights on the new album.

The former Fleetwood Mac star stated that one of the tracks on the, as yet titled album is about Prince.

Prince inspiration

“I’ve written a song about Prince because we were friends,” Nicks said.

The singer then recalled arriving at the Purple Rain premiere in Hollywood in 1984. “I watch it, it gets to the middle, he slaps Apollonia, I freak out,” Nicks said of seeing Prince’s character, The Kid, assaulting his girlfriend, Apollonia (Apollonia Kotero), in the film. “And I go to the fancy bathroom and sit there for the rest of the whole movie.”

Nicks later went to the party after the premiere to talk to Prince, who was waiting to hear what she thought of the film. “He goes, ‘Well, did you love it?’” she remembered. “And I’m like, ‘I only saw the first half!’ And he’s like, ‘Why?’ ‘Because you slapped that girl!’”

Nicks then said: “But I brought you a gift. It’s a really beautiful 24-carat necklace with little gold hearts on it, and here,’” she continued. “And Prince stated, ‘I don’t want your necklace.’”

She said Prince then uttered a dramatic quote that served as the jumping-off point for a track on Nicks’ upcoming album. “And then he said — and this is in the song, this is where this record began — ‘You always bring me a gift. You never bring me you.’”

Nicks has claimed that the new album (which she calls the ‘ghost record’) already has seven completed tracks and claims that that the songs are not ambiguous but are “real stories of memories of mine.”

Nicks embarks on a US tour this summer which kicks off in August in Boston, winding up in Oklahoma City in October.
