Netflix have long captivated audiences with their docuseries on murders that are as gruesome as they are fascinating. And this one’s no different.
‘American Murder: Gabby Petito’ follows the 2021 disappearance and death of travel vlogger, with the police conclusion pointing the finger at her fiancée, Brian Laundrie.
The streaming platform says the 3-part series "goes beyond the media frenzy to let Petito’s family and friends share her story" adding that it “captures the reality of a young woman enmeshed in an abusive relationship behind closed doors — even as she put on a happy, “Insta-perfect” face for social media."
Born in 1999, Gabrielle Venora Petito grew up in New York became romantically involved with Brian after graduation. They soon moved to Florida, where his family lived.
Wedding plans between the two were put on hold after they bought a van and converted it into a camper to travel across the country. Suspicions were aroused when, on August 12, the couple were spotted arguing in Utah. Police were called and signs of a violet altercation were noted by authorities.

Petito was last seen alive on August 27, 2021 in Wyoming and on Sept. 17, Laudrie’s parents reported to the police that he, now a suspect, had too gone missing. Two days later Gabby’s body was found at the Spread Creek camping area in Wyoming - she had been murdered.
When the park Laundrie was staying at was finally opened to the public, the family conduct a search and decomposed remains were found. Police determine that Laudrie had committed suicide by gunshot.
“Gabby touched so many people”, her mother told Netflix. “She touched the world, and by getting her story out there to more viewers, maybe it’ll save one more life. We’ve already received so many messages saying, “Because of Gabby’s story, I got out of that relationship.” That’s why we started the foundation as well, to help others and get resources in their hands. That is so important, because Gabby was not able to get those tools."
