Update:

Olivia Rodrigo is among the celebrities who have spoken out on social media following the killing of Alex Jeffrey Pretti at the hands of agents from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It was the second killing involving federal agents in the city this month.

The singer shared a post on her Instagram Stories stating that there is “a murderous federal agency terrorizing an American city, executing people for documenting their activities and detaining witnesses simply for exercising their rights.”

“If you support this, you are on the wrong side of history. There is a lot to do, but one thing is STOPPING the Senate this week from giving ICE another $10 billion. Please call. It is not guaranteed how senators will vote. Call twice a day, one per senator. Tell them what you think about what is happening and that you will remember how they vote,” the post read.

Rodrigo also wrote another message on her Instagram Stories: “ICE’s actions are unconscionable but we are not powerless. Our actions matter. I stand with Minnesota.” This is not the first time Rodrigo has spoken out against the policies and decisions of the Trump administration. Last year, she criticized ICE for using her song “Guts” in a video she described as “racist propaganda.”

Alex Jeffrey Pretti and Renee Nicole Good, victims of ICE

Pretti’s killing sparked outrage and protests in Minnesota, just weeks after the killing of Renee Nicole Good. In both cases, the Trump administration has said an “impartial” investigation will be carried out, while also expressing full support for the actions of ICE agents. US officials have also referred to both victims as “terrorists.”

Earlier this month, an ICE agent fired three shots at Renee Nicole Good in Minneapolis. Video footage shows an agent ordering the driver, Good, to exit the vehicle and attempting to open the door. The truck reverses and then begins to move forward. At that moment, another agent positioned near the front of the vehicle draws his weapon and fires. Three shots are heard, and moments later Good’s vehicle crashes.

Good lived with her partner in Minneapolis. She was the mother of a 6-year-old child and had two other children. She was previously married to Timmy Ray Macklin Jr., who died in 2023 at the age of 36. According to the Associated Press, Macklin was her second husband and the father of her youngest child. She was also the mother of a 12-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl from her first marriage. According to her former husband, Good worked as a dental assistant and at a credit union before becoming a stay-at-home mother in recent years. In 2020, she graduated from Old Dominion University with a degree in English literature.

Weeks later, also in Minneapolis, another ICE agent fatally shot Alex Pretti, a 37-year-old intensive care nurse. The Department of Homeland Security said an agent fired in self-defense after Pretti, who was allegedly carrying a handgun, resisted attempts to disarm him. However, videos circulating in multiple media outlets and on social platforms do not show evidence supporting that claim.
