Para la edición de 2022 la Academia decidió volver a tener un número fijo de 10 nominadas a Mejor Película, en lugar de la reciente regla de que se podían nominar entre cinco y diez películas dependiendo del porcentaje total de votos (debías de tener más del 5%). Por ese motivo, ‘Vidas privadas’ ha conseguido colarse entre las finalistas pese a tener solamente una candidatura más al Oscar (mejor guion original). Ese tope de 10 abre la horquilla a otras producciones que si no tendrían difícil estar entre las mejores. El año anterior, ‘Ellas Hablan’ siguió el mismo patrón que ‘Vidas privadas’.

In 2022, the Academy opted to return to a fixed number of 10 nominees for Best Picture, moving away from the flexible five to ten nominees system based on total vote percentage (requiring over 5%). This change allowed 'Past Lives' to secure a spot among the finalists with just one additional Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay. The cap at 10 nominations opens the door for other productions that might otherwise struggle to be recognized among the year's best. The previous year, 'They Talk' followed a similar path to 'Past Lives'.
