Serena Williams is pregnant again! The tennis star announced that she is expecting her second child.

Williams made the announcement on Instagram just before she walked the Met Gala red carpet. She later arrived in a black Gucci gown, paying tribute to late designer Karl Lagerfeld.

She also accessorized with pearls by Tiffany & Co around her neck as well as a pearl headband by Lelet. She was accompanied by her husband, who wore a classic black tuxedo.

“Was so excited when Anna Wintour invited the 3 of us to the Met Gala,” Williams captioned a photo of herself with her husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian.

Ohanian also tweeted about their expanding family, writing, “Mama & Papa love this parenting-thing, so we’re back at it and @olympiaohanian is gonna be the best Big Sister she’s been asking & praying for this for a minute. #MetGala.”

William’s family

Williams and her husband already have one child who is now five years old, named Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. The 23-time Grand Slam champion famously won the 2017 Australian Open while eight weeks pregnant; she found out that she was expecting just before the tournament began.

In 2021, Williams retired from solo tennis to focus on her family. She has expressed her belief that it is unfair that women are forced to choose between family and career.

Moving on from tennis

Williams spoke about the farewell to Tennis in an essay for Vogue earlier in 2022. The athlete explained how she is “evolving away” from the sport and moving into a stronger desire to expand her family.

“In the last year, Alexis and I have been trying to have another child, and we recently got some information from my doctor that put my mind at ease and made me feel that whenever we’re ready, we can add to our family,” Williams wrote in the essay. “I definitely don’t want to be pregnant again as an athlete. I need to be two feet into tennis or two feet out.”

Williams spoke about the difficulties of childbirth in 2017, but returned to tennis six months later and nearly won her 24th major title.
