‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ new 4K restoration: Everything you need to know about Disney’s new release
The iconic cult classic is now 50 years old and Disney is marking the anniversary with a big cinematic celebration.
The iconic ‘The Rocky Horror Picture Show’ turns 50 years old this year and Walt Disney are marking the anniversary with a special celebration.
The cult classic musical comedy horror film was first released in 1975 and was initially a subject of real controversy, drawing widespread negative reviews. But it quickly became an underground hit and that popularity has fueled an incredible run.
After 50 years, The Rocky Horror Picture Show is the longest-running theatrical release in cinema history and it has spawned a whole subculture of shadow-casts, audience participation and performance art. Fans regularly attend shows in costume, eager to be a part of the iconic production.

The 50th birthday celebrations include a new run of theatrical appearances in 55 cities across the United States and Canada, alongside meet and greets with original cast members. Forbes reports that Barry Bostwick, Patricia Quinn and Nell Campbell will be in attendance at the shows from September 23 onward.
For those who can’t make it to these events, there will always be a new version of the film released by Disney. The 4K Blue-ray discs will bring together a whole hole of extra features and related content, all packaged in a sleek steelbook box.
The 4K restoration of the film will also be available to watch in cinemas through October, with a streaming release coming on October 7.
Finally, a 50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of the original movie soundtrack will also be reissued as part of the 50th birthday celebrations. The 180g red-in-gold vinyl will be officially released on October 10.
