‘The White Lotus’ director Mike White on nude scenes in the series: “I’m very timid about asking people to undress”

Starting out back in 2021, The White Lotus series follows the exploits of the guests and staff during a week spent at a luxury global resort hotel chain.

Series 1 was set in Hawaii, the second in Sicily and the current season set in Thailand.

It’s been acclaimed by critics for its writing, acting, humor, and production values and has received several accolades: it has won 15 Primetime Emmy Awards – including for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series – and two Golden Globes, including for Best Limited or Anthology Series or Television Film.

Jennifer Coolidge won several awards for her performance in the first two seasons, including two Primetime Emmys and a Golden Globe, while White won two Emmys for his writing and directing.

Director White on sex scenes

Speaking to NPR in 2022, director Mike White stated: “I’m very timid about asking people to undress and get into sexual situations. It’s not my wheelhouse. There were definitely times on this shoot that I was like, ‘What have I got myself into?’ My threshold for awkwardness is very low,” he told NPR in November 2022. “The actors are much more confident and uninhibited than I am. That was new terrain for me. It just felt like it was important because it really is baked into the narrative.”

Season 3 roll out

The third season of ‘The White Lotus’ is currently airing via HBO with the eighth and final episode scheduled for April 6.

The good news for fans of the show is the recent confirmation from HBO that it had renewed ‘The White Lotus’ series for a fourth chapter with production set to take place in 2026.

At present no location has been revealed as to where season four will be shot with early speculation suggesting it could be Mexico or Egypt.
