These were the most watched shows and movies on Netflix in 2023

Netflix have revealed what we watched the most in 2023, compiling a list of all the most popular series and movies to grace our screens across the year.

The streaming giant publishes a new list of the Top 10 every week, but now they have announced that a ‘A Netflix Engagement Report’ will be published twice a year, showing us what we most liked every six months.

The report includes three core elements: Hours viewed for every title, the premiere date for any Netflix TV series or film whether or not a title was available globally.

Netflix reveal most popular shows from January to June 2023

The first report, which covers the numbers from January 2023 to June 2023 includes close to 20,000 titles, represents 99% of everything watched on Netflix, and totals nearly 100 billion hours viewed.

Netflix said that “this is a big step forward for Netflix and our industry. We believe the viewing information in this report — combined with our weekly Top 10 and Most Popular lists — will give creators and our industry deeper insights into our audiences, and what resonates with them”.

Given that the data revealed only covers the first half of the year, it doesn’t tell us how many people watched Squid Game: The Challenge or Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, both hugely popular shows which we expect might be close to the top spot when the numbers for the second half of the year eventually come to light.
