Trump inauguration
What to know about Carrie Underwood, the singer performing at Trump’s inauguration
Former ‘American Idol’ winner Underwood, 41, is to perform shortly before Donald Trump is sworn in as US president on Monday.

On Monday, January 20, Donald Trump will begin his second term as president of the United States. Having already had four years in the White House from 2017 to 2021, the Republican became the first man since the 19th century to secure non-consecutive US presidencies when he claimed a comprehensive election victory over Democratic vice-president Kamala Harris in November.
Trump is to be sworn in as the 47th president of the US at about 12 noon ET/9:00 a..m. PT, in a ceremony that will take place inside the Capitol Rotunda in Washington, D.C. The inauguration is normally held outside, at the west front of the US Capitol, but has been moved indoors due to the low temperatures forecast for Monday in the capital city.
Which song will Carrie Underwood perform at the inauguration?
The inauguration will be attended by a host of major political figures and business chiefs, in addition to show-business personalities such as the singer Carrie Underwood. She is to perform “America the Beautiful” with the Armed Forces Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club. Underwood is due to take to the stage shortly before Trump swears the presidential oath of office.
The lowdown on Underwood: reality star, multiple Grammy winner...
A country-music star, Underwood is best known for songs such as “Before He Cheats”, “Something in the Water” and “Jesus, Take the Wheel”. An artist who has released nine studio albums, she rose to fame after winning the fourth season of the reality-TV singing contest American Idol in 2005.
An eight-time Grammy Award recipient, Underwood was the co-host of the Country Music Association Awards for more than a decade, and this year will be on the judges’ panel for season 23 of American Idol.
“We must all come together”
A performer who has avoided discussing her political allegiances in public - “I try to stay far out of politics,” she told The Guardian in 2019 - Underwood has received social-media criticism for agreeing to perform at Trump’s inauguration.
In response, she said this month that her appearance at the event is motivated by a desire to foster a “spirit of unity” in the US.
“I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event,” the 41-year-old said in a statement shared with media outlets. “I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future.”
In addition to Underwood, confirmed performers at Trump’s inauguration include the disco group The Village People, country musician Lee Greenwood and opera singer Christopher Macchio.
