Out of the 10 nominees up for Best Picture, ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ proves to be a favorite among critics. In fact, the film recently reached a rare milestone in regards to the number of awards it’s garnered thus far.

According to IGN, ‘Everything Everywhere’ has accumulated 158 accolades making it the most-awarded film to date, beating out ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King’ which previously held the previous record of about 101 awards.

The movie has been sweeping up the Awards season with several Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild Awards, Independent Spirit Awards and more.

It’s currently up for a total of 11 awards at the Oscars this year and given the film’s track record, it’s incredibly likely that ‘Everything Everywhere’ will take home at least a few awards Sunday night.

Representation in film

The biggest recipients of these awards include Michelle Yeoh for Best Actress and Ke Huy Quan for Best Supporting Actor, the latter of whom recently made a comeback to acting.

The popularity that the film has acquired is no small feat. While being a surrealist indie film, it’s also a huge win for East Asian representation.

Quan has previously stated to Variety that the success of ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ encouraged him to return to acting as the film proved that Asian representation is not only needed, but can be successful.

“When ‘Crazy Rich Asians’ came out and I saw my fellow Asian actors up on the screen, I wanted to be up there with them,” Quan said. “I called up an agent friend of mine, and I asked him if he wanted to represent me, and he said yes.

“Two weeks later, I got a call about this movie that stars Michelle Yeoh, written and directed by the Daniels [Kwan and Scheinert] and Waymond was one of the leads.”
