You’re running out of time, one of the best science fiction movies will say goodbye to Netflix in the next few days
Natalie Portman and Jennifer Jason Leigh star in critically acclaimed sci-fi thriller “Annihilation,” which will be disappearing from Netflix.

We’ve all become well used to Netflix regularly changing its list of available movies and series, which means you’ll have to be quick if you’re to watch one critically acclaimed science fiction horror thriller.
“Annihilation,” directed by Alex Garland, was released in theaters only in the United States, Canada and China in 2018, with the film exclusively available on Netflix in the rest of the world. Despite that, the streaming platform has now decided to get rid of it from Tuesday, March 11 onwards.
Why you should watch “Annihilation”
If you are a fan of Natalie Portman or Jennifer Jason Leigh, then their casting might be enough. If you’re not especially keen on either, there are other reasons to sit down and watch.
“Annihilation” isn’t your stereotypical, grand sci-fi thriller, with Garland’s deploying a more reflective approach in his exploration of some challenging themes that “should leave audiences pondering long after the end credits roll,” according to a ‘critics consensus’ on Rotten Tomatoes. “Annihilation” has an approval rating of 88% based on over 300 reviews on the film review aggregator website.
As the story follows a group of scientists on an expedition to a mysterious quarantined zone of mutating plants and animals caused by an alien presence, there are inevitably some eye-catching - and terrifying - sci-fi visual effects, although most reviews agree that it’s a whole lot more than tha. Garland explores what it means to be human, taking us through an existential journey about our very essence.
“Garland need make no apologies for ”Annihilation", says Rolling Stones film critic Peter Travers. “It’s a bracing brainteaser with the courage of its own ambiguity. You work out the answers in your own head, in your own time, in your own dreams, where the best sci-fi puzzles leave things."
Obama’s favorite a potential “cult classic”
Loosely based on Jeff VanderMeer’s 2014 novel of the same name, “Annihilation” made little impact at the box office but has been touted as a cult classic by several publications, while Barack Obama once listed it as one of his favorite films.
You can judge it for yourself on Netflix, but you’ll have to be quick.
